Christmas Events

Sherwood Groves Auto Group in Wysox is hosting their annual collection of toys to be distributed as Christmas gifts to needy kids in Bradford County. They are asking members of the community to help them fill a Ford F-150 with new unwrapped toys. Deadline to drop off toys is Friday, Dec. 16. Toys will be distributed by the Abuse Rape Crisis Center and the Children & Youth agency.

Elk Lake Christmas Concerts 5th and 6th Grade, Thursday, Dec. 15, 7 p.m. at the Elk Lake Elementary School.

The Rushville Presbyterian Church will be holding its annual Christmas Eve Service at 5:30 p.m. Everyone welcome.

Wyalusing Valley High School Winter Concert Schedule:. Monday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m., featuring String Ensemble, Jr./Sr. Orchestra, Early Morning Jazz and Senior Chorus. Chorus alumni invited to sing the Hallelujah Chorus.

New Year’s Eve party. Make your reservations early for the Greater Wyalusing Chamber of Commerce “Hometown Holiday Party.” It has become popular and space is limited. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres in the T-W room (surrounded by the fantastic art of the latest show by the Blue Heron Gallery). A catered dinner begins at 7 p.m. The DJ, “All About Entertainment” creates a terrific party atmosphere from 8 until 12. The party is over not long after the ball drops. The Factoryville UMC choir and friends present an evening of Christmas music, featuring the cantata: “Once Upon a Night” on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.

New Albany Community Library has an angel tree with boys and girls cards on it. Information on the card for their Christmas wish. Help a child have a nice Christmas. Library hours are Tuesday, 5 to 7 p.m.; Thursday, 9 to 11 a.m. and Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m.

Factoryville UMC Christmas Eve service at 9 p.m. This year, 100% of the offering will be donated, half going to Susquehanna Conference flood relief effors and the other half going to the Heifer Project.


Everyone is invited to attend a Blue Christmas Remembrance Service at the Rushville Church on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. During that time you may light a candle in memory of your loved one(s). T.A.C.O. Food Pantry Christmas closing dates. The Towanda Area Christian Outreach (TACO) Food Pantry will be closed for the Christmas/New Year’s holiday from Thursday, Dec. 22 throughSunday, Jan. 1. They will reopen Monday, Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. TACO serves the Northeast Bradford, Towanda and Wyalusing school districts and is normally open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. If the Towanda School District is closed due to bad weather, the pantry is also closed. For additional information, call 570-265-4422.

During December, New Era United Methodist Church will be collecting items to send to the Bath VA Hospital. Some of the items needed are: toothpaste and toothbrushes, liquid body soap, socks, crew socks, games/books (Western, Mystery), magazines, stationery, stamps, envelopes, shampoo, tshirts w/pockets, puzzle books, pencils, pens, gloves, one size fits all, small stuffed toys. They can be dropped off any Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon at the church.

Recovery House Meetings — AA Group of Towanda meets Mon.-Fri., noon; Mon., Thurs., Fri., Sat., 8 p.m., Sun., 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. NA meetings are held Tuesdays at 7 p.m. Speaker meeting every first Sunday, 8 p.m. All meetings at 205 Main St., Towanda (please use rear, lower entrance).

Compassionate Friends — of the Endless Mountains will hold their meetings on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Endless Health Community Center, Montrose. TCF is open to all families who have lost a child from any cause at any age. There are no membership dues or fees of any kind. MOPS — Mothers of Preschoolers meet every first and third Wed. of the month from 9 to 11 a.m., September through May. Meetings are held at the First Presbyterian Church, 5 Court St., Towanda. Wyalusing Senior Citizens will meet on Dec. 20 at 11:30 a.m. at the Wyalusing Fire Hall. Carol Madill and 14 students from WVHS will present the program. People 50 and over are welcome. Come and enjoy a good dinner, good company and lots of music. Bring a dish to share, your table service and a friend or two.


Annual Northeast Bradford Alumni Boys’ Basketball game will be held on Friday, Dec. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Northeast Bradford High School gym.

Towanda Elks #2191 is hosting the 40th Annual “Hoop Shoot” free throw competition Saturday, December 17 at St. Agnes School in Towanda. Registration (bring copy of birth certificate) and warm up will begin at 9 a.m. The Hoop Shoot event starts at 10. Last year, over 3 million youngsters from throughout the country entered the free throw shooting competition for boys and girls in age categories 8-9, 10- 11 and 12-13. All are welcome.
