Charles A. “Chub” Swackhamer of Dimock, PA lost a lengthy battle with ALS on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012 at Northeast Hospice, Scranton. Born Jan. 4, 1950, he was the son of Adelia (Dee Hall), Dimock, and the late Charles W. Swackhamer, who predeceased him on June 14, 2011.
He is survived by his precious daughter, Shawn Lee; two loves of his life, his grandchildren, Haley Marie and Axel McNeice; a son-in-law, William McNeice of Auburn Four Corners, Meshoppen; sister, Sandra Newman of Montrose; a special cousin, J.T. Hall of Montrose and nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Stacy Kaye in 1970; two brothers, Danny in 1998, David in 2003, and a brother-in-law, Michael Newman in 2004.
A graduate of Elk Lake High School, he was employed at Procter & Gamble prior to his illness. He was a very kind and caring father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, whose faith in God never wavered during his 40 years of illness. He loved his family and friends and was an avid hunter and fisherman, walking many miles through the woods following creek beds, deer paths, stonewalls and back roads.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Elk Lake Community Church with Pastors Charles Bishop and Brian Williams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society or County Historical Society in Montrose. The family would like to thank the Clarks Summit State Hospital, Moses Taylor Hospital and Northeast Hospice for the tender loving care these past few years and the many caregivers in the years prior. We would also like to thank Pastors Charles Bishop and Brian Williams and Daniel K. Regan for their caring and kind services.
