Benefits

A benefit will be held for Justin Owen, who is recovering from an accident when a faulty firework blew up in his face causing severe damage to his left eye in Jan. 2012. He will be making many trips to a Rochester hospital throughout his recovery process. A spaghetti dinner will be held on Feb. 26 at the Laceyville Fire Hall from noon to 8 p.m. There will also be a bake sale, basket raffle and Chinese Auction.

Stop in to Peoples State Bank, Rt. 6, Wyalusing, and make a donation to the Sean Allen Family Fire Fund. The family lost their home and belongings in a fire on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Knights of Columbus Valentine’s Breakfast Buffet on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 8 to 11 a.m. at St. Basil’s Hall, Dushore. Scrambled eggs, pancakes, home fries, bacon, sausage links, chipped beef, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee, tea, milk and water. Adults, $7; children, $3.50; under six eat free. Church

The monthly Sunday Vesper Service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, corner of Church and Chestnut Streets, Montrose. A simple meal will be served in the Parish House following the ecumenical services. Everyone welcome.

Susquehanna Singers Rehearsals. Due to scheduling conflicts and availability, the Susquehanna Singers will not have a spring concert this year. However, with Jody Stroud at the keyboard and under the direction of Joel Spinney, the singers will kick off another busy fall season beginning in August of 2012. Jody and Joel are looking forward to lots of returning voices and welcome new ones, so please mark your calendars. Anyone having questions, please call Jody at 570-247- 2456.

The Relay for Life, Susquehanna County is hosting a luncheon to honor cancer survivors on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 11:30 a.m. at the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center in Elk Lake. Cancer survivors may bring one caregiver to the event. Persons interested should contact Bonnie Morgan at 570-278-3608 no later than Feb. 14 to reserve a seat. Should there no school or a delay on Feb. 28, the luncheon will be on Tuesday, March 6 at 11:30 a.m.

Angels Among Us, Relay for Life team, will be having a chicken and biscuit dinner on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Laceyville Fire Hall. Eat in or take-outs available.

The Keystone Theatre Hosts Soup-n-Bowl. Not a fan of the Big Game? Then head on down to Keystone Theatre in Towanda for their Soup-n-Bowl. Bring in a can of soup for TACO’s Food Pantry and your own bowl, and the staff will fill your bowl with popcorn for just 50 cents—no matter the size. Special is good for all shows at the theatre on Sunday, Feb. 5. R5p

Quilt Show rescheduled. Get ready, plan ahead and join in. The Endless Mountains Quilt Guild quilt show, canceled due to the flood in 2011, is rescheduled to take place on Sept. 22-23 in Athens. Quilters of all levels are invited to display their quilts. You do not need to be a guild member. There is no fee to enter. Young quilters are encouraged to enter as well. North Rome Christian School will be hosting a Kindergarten Preview Day on Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. The prospective Kindergarten students will have a “mini-day” experience, while parents will meet with the school administrator, Mrs. Lee Ann Carmichael, to learn more about the school and kindergarten readiness. Look Good, Feel Better is a free program that teaches beauty techniques to women in active treatment to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. The Bradford County Democratic Committee invites all interested Democrats to attend the February montly general meeting at the Weigh Station in Towanda. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Issues concerning the 2012 election year and the future of Bradford County will be discussed.
