Harry Gardner, Sr.
Born on May 6, 1929, in New York City, NY, he was a son of the late Joseph Gardner and Veronica Howard Gardner. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Harold married the late Elaine Cole on Oct. 23, 1946 in New York City, NY.
His greatest loves were his family and friends. He was an avid tennis player; he also enjoyed playing softball in North Rome and Herrickville Churches, but loved all kinds of sports. All who knew him knew that his greatest passion was Jesus Christ. He and his family enjoyed playing and singing in many of the area churches. He was a long-time member of the Herrickville Wesleyan Church but enjoyed attending many of the area churches Bible study and other activities. Harold worked several years as Bradford County Tax Assessor, and until his retirement in 1992 he worked for Kennedy Valve Company in Elmira NY.
Surviving are his children, Gloria Jeanne D’Amico of Towanda, Yvonne Robinson of Wyalusing, Wanda (Jerry) Cooley of Wyalusing, Valerie Gardner of W. Bloomfield, NY, Chris (Karen) Gardner of Brooklyn, NY, Harry Gardner, Jr. (Pam) of Maricopa, AZ, Anita (Barry) Smith of Farmington, NY, Stephen (Lynn) Gardner of Elgin, OK, Suzanna Gardner of Wiler, Switzerland; 24 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his twin brothers, John and Frank Gardner, and his sister, Dorothy Schoonmacher; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend and companion, Inez Smith.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Elaine Cole Gardner (May 7, 2008); infant daughter, Angel Elaine; son, Joseph Michael Gardner; his grandson, Christopher Gardner, Jr. and sisters, Eleanor Queret and Marie Armioia.
Friends and family were received 10 a.m. to noon in the Herrickville Wesleyan Church, Herrickville, with a funeral service following on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Interment followed in the East Herrick Cemetery.
