Properties WERE acquired by eminent domain for public purpose until the Connecticut Kelo case which many of us found horrifying. Properties can now be taken for private purposes of development. Thank the US Supreme Court for this. Yes, property owners are given "fair" market value; but, what if they don't want to sell to a condominium development? What if they want to live in their homes or farms on a lake, river, harbor, mountain, etc.? This has huge consequences for property owners in sought after areas.

They took our land, with no contract and no payment--is that your idea of fair market value???
