Harlan “Archie” Shupp, 74, of Tunkhannock, PA, died Wednesday morning, March 21, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock after an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Myers Cook Shupp, on Nov. 4, 1988. Born in Tunkhannock on Dec. 4, 1937, he was the son of the late William and Esther Sands Shupp.
A retired employee of Procter & Gamble, Mehoopany, he had been employed by Shamrock Auctions for over 20 years. He was a carpenter by trade before his employment at Procter & Gamble. He had a knowledge of antiques and was especially fond of railroading and trains. He enjoyed his special 1963 Chevy Chevelle Malibu convertible. He was very friendly and had a special sense of humor. Archie bowled in several leagues at Shadowbrook Lanes.
A graduate of Tunkhannock High School, Class of 1956, he was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and Vietnam. He was a member of the Eatonville United Methodist Church and the American Legion, Black Walnut. Survivors include two stepdaughters,
Donna LaBar and
Tina Pettis and her husband, Ron Pettis of Tunkhannock; a step-son,
Cook of Tunkhannock; two sisters,
Ercel Wasko and her husband, Mike and Onalea Lane of
Tunkhannock; a special friend,
Sonja Rau of Tunkhannock, grandchildren: Monica LaBar-Hughes, Gina Getts, Donna Allen, Kenneth Severcool, Jr. and Joseph Cook, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, William.
Funeral services were held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga Street, Tunkhannock. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. The Rev. Lori Robinson officiated. Friends called on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm.
