Dayton Brown

Dayton A. Brown, 93, formerly of Herrickville, PA passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 10, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital in North Towanda. Dayton was born Nov. 27, 1918 in Athens, the son of Dayton C. Brown and Harriet Anderson Brown. He attended the Kellogg School and in early years worked on several area farms. He was later employed by C.B. Eastabrook and C.C. Allis in Herrickville and owned and operated his dairy farm in Herrickville for a number of years. Dayton drove a log truck for several years until his retirement. He was a member of the H.O.P.S. Ambulance Association and formerly served as Herrick Township Supervisor for a number of years.

Dayton enjoyed fishing, old western movies, NASCAR and baseball. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.

Surviving are his children, Ellen Louise (Robert) Matson of Wyalusing, Patsy B. Sturdevant of Herrickville, Dayton F. (Betty) Brown of Bordentown, NJ; daughter-in-law, Nettie Brown of Towanda; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Pansy Rose of Beverly Hills, FL; brother, Leon Brown of Towanda, and a sisterin law, Margaret Northrup of West Burlington Twp.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia Northrup Brown on July 30, 1995; son, Ronald E. Brown in June 1994; grandson, Dean Sturdevant in October 2003, and a sister, Flossie Brown in 1932.

The funeral service was held Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. Interment followed in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills. The family received friends on Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
