Robert E. Hoffa, 80, of Oriskany, NY, passed on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Hartford, NY. Born on May 20, 1931 in New Albany, PA, he was a son of the late Howard and Harriett Orlowski Hoffa.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served from April 1952 until April 1956 as an aircraft mechanic. In December 1954, he married Stella Sitas in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mildred, and they celebrated 57 years together. He was an aircraft mechanic for 35 years, retiring in 1993 from U.S. Airways.
Robert attended Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hartford and was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Mildred. He was a former member of the McDermott American Legion Post 452 of Mildred and a member of the International Association of Machinists Union.
He enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and repairing automobiles.
Survivors include his wife, Stella at home; a son, Thomas R. Hoffa of Oriskany, NY; a daughter, Barbara M. and Robert Johnson of Blossvale, NY; a grandson, Brandon E. Scalise of Oriskany, NY, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Hoffa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20 at 10 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Mildred with Rev. Robert Kaltenbaugh, Pastor, officiating. Family and friends are invited to the viewing on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, and on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church in Mildred. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the American Legion and the U.S. Air Force.
