Ronald Hampsey

Ronald ‘Art’ Hampsey Ronald ‘Art’ Hampsey Mr. Ronald A. (Art) Hampsey, 72, of 375 Andrea Lane, Milan, PA, formerly of Laceyville, PA, passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 3, 2012 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born in Meshoppen on Feb. 22, 1940, he was the son of the late Arthur Paul Hampsey, Jr. and Evelyn Staights Hampsey. Art was in the final graduating class of the Meshoppen High School class of 1957.

He was retired from Osram Sylvania where he worked as a laboratory technician for 33 years. Prior to his career with Sylvania, he worked for Ansco in Johnson City, NY and served his country in the United States Army as a Radio Intercept Specialist at Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Hood, TX.

He lived a full life starting in scholastic athletics as a basketball and baseball letterman. He participated in numerous adult softball and basketball leagues in his younger years. Later he touched many lives as a little league baseball and men’s softball coach of many championship teams in the area. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and was an assistant chief for the Laceyville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co.

Art enjoyed hunting, camping and traveling. He spent life after retirement, golfing and traveling the United States and Western Europe. He wintered many years in Dunellon, FL as a PA snowbird visiting with other retirees from the Towanda area. He loved collecting and is remembered as a friend to all he encountered. Art was a loving father, uncle and grandfather.

Tampa, FL; his daughter, Rebecca

DePue and her husband, Matthew of

Montrose; his stepdaughters, Brenda Polons of Meshoppen and Karen Maxwell of Wyalusing; brothers, Robert and his wife, Elaine Hampsey of Montgomery,

AL and Donald Hampsey of Laceyville and several nieces and nephews. Art is also survived by his long-time companion, with whom he lived for the last few years, Mary Lacey of Milan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Randall Hampsey and an infant daughter, Rhonda Hampsey, as well as his sister, Naomi O’Sullivan.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with Rev. Wade Clauser of the Herrickville Hope Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, May 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. Graveside military services were conducted at the Overfield Cemetery with members of the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion, the Dennis Strong Post #457 American Legion and the Endless Mountains Post #3583 VFW.
