Paul Whipple Paul Whipple Paul Barnes Whipple, 89 of 2129 Stonecrest Dr., Lancaster, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2012. He was the son of the late John A. and Pauline Barnes Whipple. He was the loving husband of Elva L. Thompson Whipple, whom he married in 1944.

Mr. Whipple grew up in Bradford County on his family’s 129-acre Herrickville dairy farm, which he owned. He also worked as a salesman for Vandervort’s Feeds from 1950 to 1955. In 1955 he got a job with Farm Credit in Bradford County. He was transferred to Lancaster County in 1956 and became manager in 1959 and was instrumental in establishing the poultry industry in Lancaster County. In 1964, Mr. Whipple moved to Miller and Bushong, now known as Pennfield Corp., and worked as a financial consultant in the poultry division. After 20 years, he moved to Agri-General, a division of Hershey Equipment Co. He retired in 1987.

Mr. Whipple served as director of the Lancaster County Agriculture Preserve Board, director and treasurer of Farmland Trust and outside director of York Farm Credit. “It is more important now than ever,” Mr. Whipple said, adding that development pressure will not go away. “Farmland preservation has been a success, but there is a lot more work to do.”

Mr. Whipple was a member of the Reamstown Church of God where he served in past capacities as a trustee and a member of the church and pastor’s council.

Surviving, in addition to his wife are four children, Paul B. Whipple, Jr., Harrisburg, Paula, wife of the Rev. Scott Reiman, Easton, David, husband of Sharon Koppey Whipple, Brownstown, Cheryl Whipple Lennon, Lancaster; a foster son, Ken, husband of Cindy Beers, FL; eight grandchildren, Paul III, Rosemary, Amanda (Matt), Jared, Kaitlyn, Lauryn, Neil, Reid; one sister, Katherine, wife of Kenneth Thigpen, GA. He was preceded in death by one brother, Rodney Whipple; two sisters, Gladys Pert and Eloise Whipple.

The funeral will be Friday, July 6 at 10 a.m. at Reamstown Church of God, 400 Pfautz Hill Rd., Stevens, PA. Viewing will be Thursday, July 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday.

Interment will be at 4 p.m., Friday at South Hill Cemetery, Orwell Twp., Herrickville.
