Howard Ace

Howard L. Ace, 84 of Towanda, PA passed away Monday morning, July 9, 2012 at home following declining health. Born March 9, 1928 on Clapper Hill, Tuscarora Township, he was the son of the late Raymond and Genevieve LaFrance Ace. Howard was a graduate of Meshoppen High School, Class of 1946.

In earlier years he enjoyed playing baseball. On July 17, 1948, he married the former Catherine C. “Kate” Webster at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Towanda. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died May 17, 2007.

In earlier years Howard owned and operated a farm with his father, Raymond Ace. He was subsequently employed by the Berlinger Silk Mill in Towanda and the Lehigh Valley Railroad in Odessa, NY. Howard and Kate returned to the Towanda area from Odessa to be employed by Osram Sylvania, retiring in 1993 after 34 years of service.

He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Towanda, and the Sylvania Men’s Club. He enjoyed wine and brandy making.

Surviving are his daughter, Ann T. Ace at home; son, Jon J. Ace of Towanda; grandson, Johnathon M. Ace of Moncks Corner, SC; brother and sisterin law, Donald and Lilia Ace of State College; sisters-in-law, Margo Ace of Sayre, Regina Joan Webster of Towanda; sister in-law and brother-in-law, Nora and Robert Smith of Towanda; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Mary Ann Webster of Florida; brother in-law, Edward Jerry Webster (Marge Benjamin) of Towanda; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Lloyd Ace; sisters in-law, Rhea Ace, Sabina McLinko and Rosanna Webster and brother-in-law, Daniel F. Webster Jr.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 13, at 10 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Third St. Towanda. Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 will accord military honors at the church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, North Towanda Twp.
