Ralph Eugene “Gene” Kissell, 86, of 2659 Kerrick Hill Road, Towanda, PA, a life-long and wellknown resident of Asylum Township, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
“Gene,” as he was known by his family and many friends, was born June 15, 1926 in Asylum Township, the son of Ralph William Kissell and Ione Fuller Kissell. He was a graduate of Towanda High Schoo, Class of 1944, and operated the family farm his entire life. On June 16, 1950, he married the former Janice Ione Smith.
He was formerly employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Towanda and by the Dairylea Creamery in Wyalusing. Gene drove milk truck and served as an Asylum Township Supervisor for a number of years and also drove school bus for the Towanda Area School District for 26 years.
He was a member of the French Asylum Methodist Church. Gene loved spending time with his grandchildren and farming. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his daughters, Sharon J. (Conrad) Winter of Towanda, Sheila M. (Ray) Howe of Athens and Sandra A. (Carl) Curtis, III of Towanda; sons, Richard L. (Sandra) Kissell of Swindon, England and Russell E. Kissell of Wellsboro; grandchildren, Amanda Howe, Jeremy (Janelle) Howe, Cassandra Curtis, Carlina Curtis, Jessica Kissell, Ryan Kissell and Alecia Kissell; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Austyn and Allyson; sisters, Barbara (Donald) Grace of Columbia Cross Roads, JoAnn Fuller (Howard Acla) of Towanda; brothers, Raymond (Joan) Kissell of Cowlesville, NY, Hallock (Gloria) Kissell of French Asylum, Edward (Hilda) Kissell of Williamsburg, VA and David (Susy) Kissell of Lakeland, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Janice on July 26, 1998; father, Ralph William Kissell on Nov. 2, 1981; mother, Ione Fuller Kissell on Jan. 17, 2004; infant son, Ralph Edward Kissell in 1952; sister, Constance “Connie” J. Kissell in January of 1951 and brothers, Robert W. and Gordon F. Kissell.
A memorial service was held Monday, July 23 at 11 a.m. at the French Asylum Methodist Church with Rev. James Hollister officiating, Interment followed in the French Asylum Cemetery.
