Janet A. Collins, 65, of New Albany, PA passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends after losing her battle with cancer. Born Sept. 30, 1946 in Towanda, she was the daughter of the late Vine H. and Annabelle Chilson Lee. She was preceded in death by a sister, June Lee Trick.
She is survived by her devoted husband, James C. Collins; a daughter and son-in-law, Tui and Dan Slocum of Overton; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Tiffany Collins of Overton, and four wonderful grandchildren whom Janet adored very much: Cora, Rieley and Annamary Slocum and Aislynn Collins. Her grandchildren were her world and each of them worshipped and adored their “GrandMaMa.” She is also survived by two brothers and their wives, James and June Lee of Athens and Jerry and Cathy Lee of New Albany, along with her nephews, Jimmy, Jeffrey, Jody, Michael and Matthew Lee and her mother-in-law, Jane H. Pentz, Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
In her younger days, you could find Janet waiting tables at the Shady Nook where there was never a dull moment when she was there, and if you were fortunate enough to enjoy the New Albany swimming pool, you could find her in the lifeguard chair, working the concession stand, throwing change in the pool or just hanging out with the town kids.
She enjoyed shooting darts, fishing, swimming, bird watching, taking long rides around the mountain looking for deer, cooking and watching NASCAR events following her favorite driver No. 2, Rusty Wallace. You can bet there wasn’t a Paula Dean or a campfire recipe she didn’t try. Two things GrandMa- Ma enjoyed most was being with her husband and her grandchildren. She always had something planned for them whether it was relay races, scavenger hunts or their all time favorite…silly string wars.
She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all but NOT forgotten.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, Towanda.
Abiding with Janet’s request, a private family memorial service will be held. Memories and condolences may be expressed by visiting the website of www.bowenfuneralhomes.com.
