Anne Johnston Sullivan, 84, of Asylum Township, PA, passed away on Wednesday morning, Aug. 15, 2012 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. Born on May 9, 1928 in Towanda, she was the daughter of the late G. Gwin and Cornelia D. Johnston. On Oct. 6, 1951, she married William (Bill) Sullivan and they were happily married for 54 years until his passing in 2006.
She grew up in Towanda and was a graduate of Towanda Area High School, Class of 1947. She settled in Macedonia on the Sullivan family farm and continued to live there until she passed. After high school she went to work at North Penn Power Company before taking time off to raise her two daughters. She eventually rejoined the workforce in 1969 in the treasurer’s office where she became the tax claim deputy director and account clerk, and retired after 25 years of service to the county in 1994. Anne was Asylum Township secretary for many years and served on the county Board of Elections for Asylum Township.
Throughout the years she became an avid sports fan, never missing volleyball, basketball or softball games her daughters played in. Her attendance of sporting events continued through the years as she cheered on the teams her daughters coached or the games in which her grandchildren, nieces and nephews participated. She enjoyed the company of her neighbors and friends through various activities such as bowling, card club and luncheons. She enjoyed spending time working in her garden, cooking in the kitchen and hosting family celebrations, which are passions she passed to her daughters.
Mrs. Sullivan was a member of SS. Peter and Paul’s Parish, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Towanda Gun Club. She volunteered for the Wysox Firemen’s Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels.
