Barbecues

A chicken barbecue will be held on Sept. 23 at Wyalusing’s Penmart and the Laceyville Fire Hall. Chicken will be ready around 11 a.m. Proceeds are going to the Chris Brown Family to help them with daughter Abbi’s medical expenses.

The Stevensville Community Club’s last chicken barbecue of the season is Oct. 6 at the Stevensville Auto Body. Ready at 11:30 a.m. See Will to preorder chicken halves.

Benefits

American Cancer Society Bark for Life. A canine event to fight cancer on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Towanda Riverfront Park. Dog walk, prizes, canine demos, booths, entertainment, food and more. Fundraiser to benefit the local American Cancer Society Relay for Life teams. Amish Pancake Supper and Bake Donation at door. Sept. 28, 4 to 8 p.m. at the LeRaysville Community Building. The benefit is for Raymond Mast’s 3-1/2-year-old daughter, Sarah Beth. Church

Susquehanna Singers will perform at Standing Stone Vesper Church on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 14, 6 p.m. at the Franklindale Church. The public is cordially invited.

Susquehanna Singers Rehearsals will be held Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, 5 Court St., Towanda. New members are always welcome. Questions and more information, call Jody Stroud, 570-247-2456.

Dinners

On Oct. 13 a Spaghetti dinner will be held at the Wyalusing Fire Hall from 3 - 7 p.m. The event ‘Prayers for Abbi’ is being held to help the Chris Brown Family with daughter Abbi’s medical expenses. Tickets are on sale at Peoples State Bank, $5 adults; $3 kids.

The WVHS Class of 1951 will meet for lunch on Friday, Sept. 21 at noon at Mark’s Valley View, Laceyville.

Flood Recovery Fundraising Dinner on Sept. 30, 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hall in Wyalusing. There will be a presentation sponsored by Loaves & Fishes

Ministries, Inc. on the amazing volunteer work that has been done to date. Expenses for flood recovery have greatly depleted funds from several volunteer organizations, and there is still work to be done. The cost for the dinner will be a “free will donation.”

The Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church will sponsor a “free” senior luncheon on Oct. 9 at noon. The menu is soup, sandwich, dessert and beverage. This luncheon is open to all seniors in the area. Baby Buggy Decorating Contest

has been added to the Wyalusing Fall Festival this year. Trophies will be awarded to the prettiest, funniest, scariest and most original buggies. (A buggy is considered any vehicle that would transport a child: stroller, carriage, wagon, etc.). The festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9 to 4 with the buggy parade to be held at 2:15. Anyone taking care of a family member or loved one, be it at home or as a resident of a long term care facility is welcome. Empty shelves at the T.A.C.O. Food Pantry. Due to very heavy demand this summer, combined with cutbacks in State funding, T.A.C.O. Food Pantry finds itself in need of donations. Reunions

Towanda Class of 1972 is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its graduation the weekend of Sept. 28 to 30. Events include a tour of newly-remodeled high school building, attendance at the homecoming football game, wine tour with bus at two local wineries, dinner at the Towanda American Legion and Sunday church service. Sports

Wyalusing High School Wrestling Booster Club will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. in Coach Haley’s room at WVHS. Voting for new officers at this meeting.

Kids’ Obstacle Course for fun will be run on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Grovedale Winery at noon in conjunction with the North Branch Triathlon. There is no cost to participate and kids do not have to have someone participating in the triathlon to run the course. Kids from 3 to 11 should be at the winery patio at noon. Small prizes will be given.
