Evelyn Kraft Tompkins, 96, formerly of Meshoppen, PA, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 in Tunkhannock after an illness.
She was born in Archbald, Nov. 22, 1915, daughter of the late Henry and Josephine von Deeke Kraft. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John R. Tompkins in 1994. She was of the Lutheran faith and graduated from Archbald High School and Lackawanna Business College.
Mrs. Tompkins managed Kraft’s Department Store in Meshoppen for many years and later operated a beauty shop in her home in Meshoppen until 1992.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Charles Kraft and a nephew, Edward Propst.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Joan Ervine of Tunkhannock;, a sister, Leona Propst and her husband, Harold of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two grandchildren, Jennifer Joan Ervine of Wilkes-Barre, H. Clayton Ervine, Jr. and his wife Molly of Chicago; two greatgrandchildren, Robert Clayton Ervine and Lily Elizabeth Ervine and a niece, Judy Kraft Mead of Tunkhannock.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 at noon at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock. Rev. Murray Brindle of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be in Overfield Cemetery, Meshoppen. Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon.
