Max E. Bunnell, 92 of 784 Rattlesnake Hill Rd., Meshoppen, PA passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 24, 2012 at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, PA.
Born on Aug. 28, 1920 in Meshoppen, he was the son of the late Clarence and Jennie Phillips Bunnell.
He was a graduate of Meshoppen High School class of 1938. After high school he attended Bliss Electrical School in Washington DC.
Max served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and after the war he served in the Air Force Reserves retiring as a Major.
He was an electrician for IBM in Arlington, VA for 30 years before retiring in 1983 and moving back to Meshoppen.
Max was a member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime and founding member of the Porsche Club of America. He was a very active member of the Meshoppen Men’s Club serving as president for many years. He was also a member of the Meshoppen Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid skier from his younger years and into his seventies skiing all over the U.S. and Europe. He also enjoyed flying and golfing. In addition he loved working around his home on Bunnell Hill trying to make it look its absolute best.
Surviving are his niece Tracie McGavin and her husband, Tim of Meshoppen; his great-niece, Kayla McGavin of Meshoppen; his great-nephew, Timothy McGavin of Meshoppen, and his special neighbor, George Moreck of Meshopppen. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Louise LaFrance on Dec. 23, 2002; his brother-in-law, Boyd LaFrance on June 25, 1987 and his niece, Wendy Lee LaFrance on April 28, 1990.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, with Rev. Tom Mott of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen. Military services will precede the funeral service at the funeral home and will be conducted by the Rought-Hall Post #510 American Legion of Black Walnut, the Dennis Strong Post #457 American Legion of Tunkhannock and the Endless Mountains Post# 3583 V.F.W. of Mehoopany. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.
