Born Nov. 8, 1925 in Birchardville, he was the son of the late Carlton and Lillian (Ackerman) Birchard.
He was a member of Birchardville Baptist Church.
Selden was a dairy farmer and loved his Jersey cows. He loved his family, hunting, the outdoors and the Lord. In later years, he enjoyed collecting milk bottles and antiques and going to auctions at Shamrock Auctions.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Arlene (Graham) Birchard of Birchardville; five children, Louise Small of Irish Hill, Larry (Sheila) Birchard, Dennis (Sheila) Birchard, Debra (Ronald) Smith and Eileen Birchard, all of Birchardville; 17 grandchildren: Brian (Maria) Small, Brock Small (fiancée Alison Huizinga), Lance (Renee) Birchard, Gregg (Cherie) Birchard, Autumn (Joseph) Evanek, Shaloam (Evan) Dyer, Chantal Birchard, Chapin Birchard, Jacob Smith and Justin (Stacy) Smith; great-grandchildren, Makenna, Logan, Frank, Dakota, Cory, Noah, Rachael, Sarah, Dustin and Luke; brothers and sister-in-law, Courtland Birchard of Birchardville, Gene (Rose) Birchard of Endicott, NY; sister-in-law, Glendora Graham of Birchardville; brother-in-law, Reginald (Ednita) Graham of Windsor, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, William Small; infant granddaughter Small; great-granddaughter, Taylor Birchard; aunt, Helen Birchard; sister-inlaw, Mary Birchard; brothersin law, Bernard and Millard Graham.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose.
Friends and family may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
