E. Bertina Chilson
E. Bertina Ball Chilson, 83, of Asylum Township, PA, passed away early Saturday morning, Dec. 15, 2012, at her home following declining health. Born in Wyalusing Township on Dec. 2, 1929, she was the daughter of Alfred J. and Ruth Decker Ball. She was a graduate of Wyalusing High School and in early years was employed by the Berlinger Silk Mill in Towanda. She was later employed by Pat’s Palace Restaurant and the Bradford County Courthouse in Towanda and by the Wysox General Store for a number of years.
Bertina enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, canning and working among her flowers. She enjoyed collecting John Wayne memorabilia and was a NASCAR and Mark Martin fan.
She is survived by her children, Robin (Terry) Mosier of New Albany, Burton Chilson of North Towanda, Charles (Sandi) Chilson of French Asylum, Ella Robinson of Franklindale, Brian (Jennifer) Chilson of Franklindale, Brenda (Jack) Frye of Towanda, Christine Brown of Towanda and Duke Chilson of Asylum Township; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie Chilson of French Asylum; sister-in-law, Shirley Ball of Towanda; the father of her children, Max C. Chilson of French Asylum; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by great-grandchildren, Isaac Lee Mosier and Abagail Nicole Tinna; brothers, John and Kenneth Ball and sisters, Doris Cudo, Lena Vanderpool and Alberta Steele.
The family received friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. The funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Davis officiating. Interment followed in the Camptown Cemetery, Camptown.
The family suggests that contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Bradford Unit, 1948 East Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701-3945 in Bertina’s memory.
