Gertrude Katherine Casselbury Hitchcock, 85, formerly of Stevensville, PA, passed away Saturday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2012, at The Highlands Care Center in Laporte. She was born at home in Herrick Township on Oct. 30, 1927, the daughter of Edward and Lydia Woodruff Casselbury.
In early years, Gertrude was employed by Bendix in Montrose and by the Endicott Johnson Shoe Company in Mildred. On June 12, 1945, she married Floyd C. Hitchcock, Sr. in the Stevensville Parsonage. Gertrude and Floyd drove milk truck together for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 4, 1992.
Mrs. Hitchcock served as a board member and as caretaker of the East Herrick Cemetery for many years and also served on the Stevens Township election board for over 25 years. Gertrude was very devoted to her family and especially enjoyed following her children and grandchildren participate in sports events.
She enjoyed quilting, canning and playing bingo.
Gertrude is survived by her children, Rose Marie Belcher of Stevensville, Theron Edward (Betty Jo) Hitchcock of Stevensville, Ronald Paul (Katrina) Hitchcock of Sayre, Cindy Lou (Lyall, Jr.) Brink of Terrytown, Donald Lee (Colleen Radney) Hitchcock of Towanda and David Scott (Susan) Hitchcock of Laceyville; daughter-in-law, Hope Spotts of Lancaster; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosa Shafer of LeRaysville; brother, Francis (Dorothy) Casselbury of Wyalusing, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Floyd C.

Feb. 14, 2002; grandson, Clifford Leon Hitchcock on Oct. 10, 1975; sonin law, James Belcher on Jan. 17, 1989; sisters, Elizabeth Bowes, Viola Brink, Cora Fish and Aleatha Brink; brothers, Alvin, Walter, George, Daniel, Edward and Ralph Casselbury.
The family received friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. The funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. William Westbrook, pastor of the Herrickville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the East Herrick Cemetery in Herrick Twp.
