We may have had a short January thaw. Last week when sunny daytime temperatures soared above freezing in contrast to cold nights, sap began to rise in some sugar maples. Elk Lake sophomore, Jordan Clark tapped a few of the trees in his local sugar bush and actually was able to evaporate it. He is now waiting for some warmer days in mid-February when the real maple syrup season begins.
