Stephen Lee Walter, 50, of 382 Decker Rd., Sugar Run, PA, passed away at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, on Saturday morning, Jan. 12, 2013, after a short illness surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends.
Born in Sayre on Dec. 19, 1962, he was the son of William W., Sr. and Mary E. Fassett Walter of Towanda.
He graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School, Class of 1980. Shortly after his graduation, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1982 until 1985 as an Aircraft Ordinance Technician.
For over 30 years, he worked in the Pennsylvania Bluestone business, he loved all of the aspects of his job. He always said he had quarry dust in his veins.
Stephen was a member of the Wyalusing American Legion Post #534. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a very compassionate man; he loved to be outside and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to ride Harleys with his friend, John Kocher, and his buddies. Steelers with his son, brothers and many friends.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Ethel L. Singer, whom he has been with for the last 27 years; his son, Ryan L.K. Walter and his daughter, Bethany M.E. Walter, both of Sugar Run; his siblings, William W. (Susan) Walter, Jr. of Jenningsville, Darlene Ellis (Barry Reese) of Wyalusing, Nancy Walter of Wyalusing, David (Linda) Walter of New Albany and Chris Walter of Wyalusing, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with Rev. Lori Robinson officiating. Interment will be in the Camptown Cemetery, Camptown. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Graveside military services were conducted at the Camptown Cemetery with members of the Wyalusing American Legion Post #534.
