William Fassett, Jr.
Mr. William H. Fassett, Jr., 76, of Rushville, PA, passed away suddenly at the Endless Mountains Health Systems in Montrose on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2013.
Born in Sayre on Feb. 24, 1936, he was the son of the late William H., Sr. and Ella E. Farr Fassett.
Bill was employed at Whipple Bros. Lumber in Laceyville, and for many years, he was employed as a laborer at the Louden Hill Farms in Dimock. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and the last few years were filled with the enjoyment of being surrounded by his family, especially looking forward to seeing and being with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, whom he married on Oct. 16, 1957, the former Marian A. Walter of Rushville; his son, Timothy M. (Ginger) Fassett of Lawton; five daughters, Evelyn L. (Jim) Wells of Meshoppen, Helen C. Hollister of Dimock, Linda L. (Donald) Tompkins of Hallstead, Bonnie L. LaCount (Dave Graham) of Birchardville and Rachel (John) Saxe of Wilmot, as well as his 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by five brothers, Clifford Fassett of Lawton, Richard (Ruth) Fassett of Sugar Run; David (Margaret) Fassett of Laceyville, Chuck (Joyce) Fassett of Laceyville and Ed (Lynn) Fassett of Meshoppen; his three sisters, Mary (William) Walter of Towanda, Martha (Steve) Boice of Wyalusing, Iva Fassett of Laceyville; a sister-in-law, Elsie Fassett of Lawton and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Francis Thomas Fassett, on July 17, 2005; a sister, Evelyn Fassett on Aug. 31, 1947 and a brother, Perle Fassett on Oct. 1, 2012.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, with Rev. Gary Myers of the Meshoppen Biblical Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Jersey Hill Cemetery in Meshoppen. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
