Mrs. Doris Manning, 85, of Second St., Laceyville, PA, passed away at the home of her daughter, Jackie Benscoter, on Benscoter Rd., Laceyville, PA, where she had been staying, on Friday morning, March 1, 2013.
Born in Laceyville on March 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William and Mable VanVolkinburg Mahoney. Doris grew up and spent her entire life in Laceyville, graduating from the Laceyville High School with the class of 1945.
She was a homemaker and housewife for her late husband Arthur E. Manning, Sr., and their family. The Mannings had been married for 61 years, until his death on September 3, 2007.
In her spare time she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Doris was also an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her four children, her sons, Jim and Rose Manning of Evans Falls, Arthur “Buddy,” Jr. and Kelly Manning of Laceyville; two daughters, Patricia Gruver and George Surplus of Sugar Run and Jackie and Jerry Benscoter of Laceyville; 19 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren and a greatgreat grandson. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Mahoney of Alabama and a sisterin law, Gloria and Bob Rogers of Meshoppen and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth (Betsy) Burridge; three grandsons, Michael John Manning, Shannon Burridge, and Dennis Scott Gruver; two great-grandsons, Clay Manning and Dillon Gruver; a sister, Roberta Sleeper and her brother, William “Bill” Mahoney.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning, March 6 at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville with Rev. Dolly Tarreto, of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in the North Flat Cemetery in Laceyville. Family and friends called at the funeral home, on Tuesday evening, March 5, from 6 to 9 p.m.
