Sheshequin Accident Proves Fatal

An accident at about 10:50 a.m. Friday in Sheshequin Township resulted in the death of Alan Vanderpool, 33, of Rome.

A passenger in the Nissan Maxima that Vanderpool was driving, Joseph Neely, 24, of Wysox is in serious condition at Robert Packer Hospital

According to state police, Vanderpool was traveling at a high rate of speed on Ghent Road when he failed to negotiate a gradual right turn. The car spun and slid backwards across the roadway before flipping over several times in a nearby farm field.

Neither Vanderpool nor Neeley were wearing safety belts, and both were ejected from the vehicle.

Bradford County Coroner Tom Carman pronounced Vanderpool dead at the scene, and Neely was transported by helicopter to Sayre for treatment of his injuries, which were termed “major.”

In addition to state police, various fire departments and ambulance companies and PennDOT assisted at the scene. James Street in North Towanda Township was closed until 1:45 p.m.
