Velma Irene Swisher, 96, of Main St., Laceyville, PA, passed away on Friday morning, March 29, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock.
Born on Sept. 9, 1916 in Lodi, NY, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Olive Covert Bahr. She was a graduate of Laceyville High School Class of 1934.
She was a homemaker for her late husband, Darrell E. Swisher, who passed away in November 1994, and her son, Morgan Swisher.
Irene attended the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville. In her younger years, she enjoyed roller skating and bowling.
She is survived by her son, Morgan Swisher and his wife, Jennie of Lebanon; her grandchildren, Morgan D. Swisher of Adamstown and Lisa Spencer and her husband, Dennis of Lititz; her step-grandchildren, Holly Bleyer and her husband, Michael of Lebanon and Randall Heilman and his wife, Lisa of New Holland; three greatgrandchildren, five step-greatgrandchildren, and seven greatgreat grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Irene was preceded in death by her sisters, Amy McConegly, Phyllis Laskos, Helen Bahr and Esther Golden.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 3 at 1 p.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with Rev Thomas Davis of the Braintrim Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at the Lacey St. Cemetery. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 3, from noon until the time of the service.
