Mr. John James Kintner, 50, of Meshoppen, PA, passed away suddenly at the Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA, on Wednesday afternoon, April 17, 2013.
Born in Meshoppen on April 13, 1963, he was the son of the late James W. Kintner, who passed away on May 21, 2002, and Elizabeth A. Beck Kintner, who passed away on March 7, 2006.
Growing up in Meshoppen, John was a graduate of the Elk Lake High School. While going to school and after, he spent a lot of time working at his parents’ grocery store, Kintner’s Market in Meshoppen. He also worked on the family farm and worked for many years for Laird and Jeff Frantz Dairy Farm in Meshoppen.
John enjoyed being outdoors and spent many hours hunting on the family farm. In his spare time, he sold firewood for many years.
A member of the Meshoppen Fire Company, he enjoyed spending many hours at the fire hall and helping with many chicken barbeques.
Surviving are his brother, William L. Kintner of Tunkhannock; his sister, Mary Beth Harshbarger of Meshoppen; nieces and nephews; a special aunt, Madge (Sis) Abushady of Meshoppen and special friends, with whom he lived for many years, Holly and Rick Stark of Meshoppen.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother in-law, Mark B. Harshbarger, who passed away on Sept. 14, 2006, and a special uncle, Ramsey Abushady who passed away on July 28, 2011.
The family received friends at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, on Monday evening, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial services and interment will be held in the Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen on May 5 at 2 p.m. A luncheon will follow at the home of Rick and Holly Stark at Myo Beach.
