Harriet Constable Harriet Constable Mrs. Harriet (Shaffer) Constable, 90, of 755 Bluestone Rd., Laceyville, PA passed away at Golden Living Center, in Tunkhannock, early Sunday morning, May 5, 2013. Mrs. Constable was a resident of Golden Living Center for the last three years.

She was born in Quakertown, on Feb. 21, 1923 the daughter of the late Lewis and Lucy Botting Shaffer. Mrs. Constable was a homemaker for her late husband, Lewis G. Constable, who passed away on June 6, 1992 and their family.

She was a member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, and was a very active member of the Meshoppen Women’s Club. Mrs. Constable was also a member of the Meshoppen area Birthday Club, where she enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, crewel and embroidery of all types. Mrs. Constable was also an active member of the American Red Cross Disaster Team, working after disasters in Atlanta GA, Harrisburg and local disasters in Meshoppen, Black Walnut and Lake Carey.

Surviving are her two sons and their wives, Foster and Nancy Constable, of Laceyville, and Donald and Susan Constable of Manlius, NY; her six grandchildren, Jeff Constable, Gregory Constable, Matthew Constable, Sharon Leatherman, Brian Constable and Mark Constable; seven great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister; eight brothers and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. from the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dolly Tarreto, of the church officiating. Interment will be in the Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen. Family and friends called at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville on Wednesday evening, May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. and may call at the church on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
