John Thomas “Tom” McPherson, 68, of Rome, PA, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 at his home.
“Tom” as he was known by his family and friends was born in Wyalusing on Jan. 13, 1945, the son of John T. McPherson and Kathryn M. Allis McPherson. He was a graduate of Wyalusing High School and continued his education at the Pennsylvania Technical Institute in Williamsport.
He was employed as a truck driver in early years. He subsequently worked as a welder for several corporations in the area, eventually operating T & T Fabricating in Rome for 20 years. Throughout his life he enjoyed mechanics, working on cars and motors, motorsports and, most of all, racing competition in the area. He especially enjoyed watching the races on Sunday.
He is survived by his daughters, Nicole McPherson of Glenville, NY, Deanne McPherson of State College; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Lois McPherson of Monroeton, James and Barbara McPherson of South Waverly; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen McPherson of Athens, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul T. “Pete” McPherson on May 20, 2007 and a nephew, Kelly D. McPherson on April 22, 1984.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. Services will be private.
