How many Americans are going

How many Americans are going to have their land taken away from them for this Pipeline being proposed in Bradford County? What do they call that where the Government can TAKE your land if they need it to fill their pockets already lined with Americans money? Eminent Domain! Just wait Bradford County that's what is coming next! Darlene M Newton

Ms. Newton, Unfortunately

Ms. Newton, Unfortunately you are misinformed the purpose of the natural gas utility is to provide natural gas to those citizen that desire it and to generate a reasonable rate of return for its investors. It stands to reason that someone would only take natural gas service it doing so will save them money compared to the current fuel source they utilize. The Utility only provides service to those citizens that desire it. The utility has an allowed rate of return approved by the state regulatory body, in this case the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. The Commission answers to elected officials and customers of the utility. This is not an option you have with an unregulated propane or oil distributer. You also have a direct line to the consumer advocates office in the PUC if you believe the company is unresponsive to your needs as a customer of the utility. The utilities rates are regulated by the State as is almost every aspect of operation of the company. With regard to eminent domain in the 109 year history of Leatherstocking’s parent company (Corning Natural Gas Corp.) this capability has never been utilized. It is unlikely to be utilized in Leatherstocking. If eminent domain is utilized the company is required to pay the land owner fair market value as determined by a court before the property can be taken. The company’s object and purpose is to provide lower cost energy to the citizens of the territory it is allowed to serve. The natural gas delivered is from a local source, it is lower cost than propane, fuel oil, solar and wind powered electric generation. So I ask you if the company can make money while providing lower cost cleaner burning energy to the citizen of Pennsylvania and the utility only develops in areas that desire natural gas service thus preventing the need to utilize the eminent domain option what is the rub? I value your opinion however I believe you should study the differences between interstate pipeline companies, gathering companies, local distribution companies and energy services companies. They have all developed to serve a different need in the free market system a system that the consumer ultimately controls. Not all gas companies are the same please find out what the differences are. Russell S. Miller
