Juanita “Nita” Marie Zickler, 72, of Sullivan Terrace, Dushore, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at her home with her loving family at her side. Juanita’s last wish was to remind everyone, ”I love you all.”
Born in Elizabeth, NJ on Sept. 26, 1940, she was a daughter of the late George Wheeler Jackson and Jennie May Woodruff Jackson. She obtained her GED and later attended a Veterinarian’s Assistant Technical School for two years. She married Lawrence “Larry” E. Zickler of Spring Hill on July 4, 1959. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this July.
Juanita was a loving wife and many times referred to her husband, Larry, as her rock. They moved to Sullivan Terrace in 2011, and she quickly became involved in several community activities and even became a volunteer for Area Agency on Aging. This new chapter in their lives expanded her already immeasurable group of friends.
The Zicklers farmed for many years on Spring Hill, raising veal calves and other animals. Her true passion was her love of horses, a gift she shared with so many, by boarding, giving riding lessons and by becoming a 4-H leader with the Wyalusing Horse and Pony Club. She was a Big Sister with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program as well as a foster and exchange parent, and was known to almost everyone she met as mom or grandma.
Juanita was a member of the Calvary Chapel Endless Mountains, Wyalusing. Surviving are her spouse, Lawrence E. Zickler at home; son, Steven L. (Mary) Zickler of Wyalusing; four daughters:, Deborah Marcoccia of Pensacola, FL, Darlene Z. (Ron) Townsend of Corning, NY, Doreen L.
(Ralph) Taylor of Towanda, Donna J. (Randy) Belcher of Durell; brother, Jerry L. Jackson of Thailand; 19 grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Dolores Jackson-Ramos of San Juan, PR.
There are not enough words to express the love and dedication Juanita had for the entire family and the special place she had in her heart for all her friends.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, Dushore.
