Virginia Crandall Post, 73, of 981 Barner Road, Towanda, PA, Shores Hill, passed away Friday evening, June 28, 2013 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, Towanda.
Born April 16, 1940 in Waverly, NY, she was the daughter of Albert Marshall Crandall and Julia Jennings Crandall. Following graduation from Towanda High School in 1958, Virginia attended Mansfield University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Education upon graduation in 1962. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Sorority. In that same year, she began her teaching career at the Rome Elementary School and continued teaching third grade at the Northeast Bradford Elementary School for a total of 23 1/2 years until her retirement in January of 1986.
On June 21, 1980, Virginia married Frederick E. Post at the Union Corners United Methodist Church where she was a former active member, taught Sunday school, played piano and was a member of the United Methodist Women for many years.
The Posts enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, attending and working craft shows and attending the East Smithfield Federated Church. Virginia loved spending time and caring for her nieces, nephew, great-nieces and greatnephews who enjoyed sharing many memorable times of spelling bees, learning and scrap booking. She will be deeply missed by all.
Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Fred; sisters and brothers in-law, Elizabeth and Fred Wheaton of Warren Center, Barbara and Thomas Judge of Black, Julia and Paul Moriarty of Williams Township; nieces, Shelley Rogers and fiancé Jason Fuchs of Black, Renee Herb and husband, Richard of Warren Center, Kimberly Wheaton of Johnson City, NY; nephew, Brent Lindsey and fiancée Dawn Coy of Towanda; great-nieces and great-nephews, Lindsey, Codey, Madison, Riley, Ryder, McKenna, William, Toni, Tanner, Micah and Alexis; her sister-inlaw, Alberta Westbrook of Shores Hill, as well as numerous additional nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Julia Jennings Crandall on Nov. 12, 1992 and father, Albert Marshall Crandall on Feb. 11, 1994.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, July 3 at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with Pastor Stan Gill of the East Smithfield Federated Church officiating.
The family received friends on Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment was in the Wysox Cemetery, Wysox.
