The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) is celebrating 100 years of reintroduction of the elk in Pennsylvania. Early settlers found elk roaming Penn’s Woods and pursued these animals to help feed their families. By the mid 1860s, only a few elk were remaining in Elk and Cameron Counties, and by the 1870s, they were gone.
