Gail Burr Gail Burr Mrs. Gail E. Swisher Burr, 80, of 6 Rails Road (Burr Hill), Tunkhannock, PA, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock.

Born in West Auburn on April 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Searle P. (Oct. 9, 1981) and Lola M. Greene Swisher (Jan. 12, 1987).

After her family moved to the Meshoppen area, she was a graduate of the Meshoppen High School, Class of 1951. While in high school, Gail met her husband, C. Ronald Burr. Gail and Ron were married on March 17, 1951. Ron passed away earlier this year on Feb. 22. They would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last March.

After their graduation and wedding, Gail and Ron would build their home on Burr Hill just outside of Meshoppen, on the Burr’s Poultry Farm, where Ron became a third generation poultry farmer. Gail was a housewife and homemaker for Ron and their family.

She was a member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, and its United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Meshoppen Chapter 70, a board member of the Frances E. Kennard Library in Meshoppen, the Meshoppen Mrs. Birthday Club and a very active and proud member of the Wyoming Co. Republican Party. In her spare time, Gail loved working outside around her house. Many days throughout the years, she could be seen gardening, mowing lawn and working around her house. She always had many bird feeders and enjoyed watching all of the birds that were around her home.

Survivors include her daughters, Donna Burgess of Meshoppen and Cindy and Chris Ferris of Meshoppen; son-in-law, Raymond Buckingham of Meshoppen; grandchildren, Kelly and Gary Robbins of Retta, Jenny and Les Proffer of Pueblo, CO, Jolene Sharer of Meshoppen, Jeffrey and Melinda Buckingham of Mehoopany, Christopher Buckingham of Meshoppen, Brianne Buckingham of Meshoppen, Nathaniel Buckingham of Tunkhannock, Kassandra Buckingham of Springville, Autumn Ferris of Meshoppen and Jordan Ferris of Meshoppen; great-grandchildren, Logan Robbins, Alisa Proffer, Tyrus Proffer, Kaiden Proffer, Joshua Sharer, Dylan Sharer, Kayleigh Welch and Brock Welch, Jr.; sisters, Betty Van- Dusen of Florida and Joanne Hinkley of Tunkhannock, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her sons, Raymond Spencer Burr (Sept. 28, 1955) and David Ronald Burr (Jan. 23, 1984) and a daughter, Carol Burr Buckingham (Jan. 25, 2009), also her two brothers, Searle Duane Swisher and Robert Swisher.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, with Rev. Thomas Mott and Rev. Gil Clark of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church officiating. The committal service followed at the Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 28 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with the Order of Eastern Star services conducted by members of the Meshoppen Chapter 70 at 7:45 p.m.
