Robert Chaffee Robert Chaffee Robert H. Chaffee, 88, of Totem Lake, PA, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.

Born on Sept. 24, 1925 in Kingston, PA, he was the son of the late Maurice and Marion Homet Chaffee. He attended Highland Park High School, New Brunswick, NJ. After graduating, he enlisted into the United States Army in 1943, where he served in France, was captured and later escaped. Robert returned home and attended Rutgers University and then Michigan University, where he received a degree in chemical engineering. Soon thereafter he met and married the former Helen Wargo of Manville, NJ; she predeceased him on June 21, 1977.

After graduation from college, Robert was hired by Procter & Gamble Paper Products Company, Cincinnati, OH, where he resided for a number of years, before being transferred to Staten Island, NY and finally transferred to P&G’s newest plant in Mehoopany in 1967. He resided in Camptown for years. He met and married Janet McCarty of Endicott, NY, on Jan. 21, 1978. They moved to Tunkhannock where they lived until moving back to Totem Lake in 2000. He retired from P&G after 41 years in 1989.

Robert was a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church in Tunkhannock. He enjoyed playing tennis, listening to and playing music, woodworking and working in the garden.

Surviving are his spouse, Janet at home; a son and daughter- in- law, Eric and Doris Chaffee of Totem Lake; daughters, Marcia Gary of Wyalusing and Karen Chaffee of Hamilton Center, NJ; grandchildren, Lisa (Clay) Milne of Totem Lake, Derek R. Chaffee and fiancée, Julia Dalton of Pocono Pines, Shana Gary of Costa Mesa, CA and Hillary Gary of Sinking Springs; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Lucas and Brooklyn Milne; stepchildren, Kimberly (Thomas) Rhodes of Washington, DC, Gregg Thoma of Philadelphia and Kirk Thoma of Pittsburgh, and two nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Bevan.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Camptown United Methodist Church, Camptown, with the Rev. Peter Geschwindner presiding. Interment was in the Camptown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that people make a donation to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing.
