Pauline McMahon

Mrs. Pauline Hugo McMahon, 76, of New Albany, PA, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda.

Born Nov. 9, 1937 in New Albany, she was a daughter of the late Ivan M. and Helen O. Vogel Hugo. She graduated from the New Albany High School, a member of the Class of 1955, which was the last graduating class from the New Albany High School. She married James J. McMahon of Dushore on Oct. 26, 1957. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last October.

Pauline was a member of St. Basil’s Church in Dushore. As a child growing up in New Albany, she was a member of the United Methodist Church. She became a beautician and operated her salon in New Albany. She worked for several years in the Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU) Housekeeping Department. She found great pleasure interacting with the patients and bringing happiness to their day. Following her retirement, she continued to volunteer at the SNU. Pauline also served on the New Albany Board of Elections for many years.

Surviving are sons, Royce (LuAnn) McMahon of Rochester, NY, and Russell (Michele) McMahon of Wyalusing; daughters, Nadine McMahon (Sal DiBetta) of Wyoming and Celinda (Anthony) Crawford of Hagerstown, MD; a sister, Bernice (Art) Yonkin of Dushore; sisters-in-law, Doris Hugo of New Albany, Virginia Hugo of New Albany, Mary Lou Klem of Dushore, Joan McMahon of Dushore and Ann McMahon of Pennsdale; brother-in-law, Harold C. Rider of Eagles Mere; four grandchildren: Preston Crawford, Connor Crawford, Ashton McMahon Martin and Shawn McMahon and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, James J. McMahon on Oct. 10, 2013; brothers, Howard I. Hugo, June 6, 2004 and Kenneth W. Hugo on March 6, 2002; a sister, Carolyn M. Rider on Sept. 29, 2009 and brothers-in-law, John L. (Jack) McMahon on April 7, 2000 and Michael Klem on Aug. 12, 2013.

A Transferal Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11:30 a.m. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, Dushore, on Saturday, Nov. 30, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The family will provide the flowers. They ask that memorial contributions be sent to IHM Parish, PO Box 307, Dushore, PA 18614 for helping the poor of the community.
