Edith “Edie” Hayes Brigham, 75, of Laceyville, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 10, 2013 in her home after a very long battle with cancer. Her husband, sons and daughters were at her side through her last days, praying, singing hymns and reading scripture.
Born April 15, 1938 in Birchardville, PA, to the late Lester and Miriam Bushnell Hayes, she was one of seven children. She graduated from Montrose High School, Montrose, in 1956.
Edith married Robert E. Brigham 57 years ago and together they raised five children. She was a dedicated mother, homemaker and virtuous wife.
She was an active member of the Braintrim Baptist Church for over five decades, a Sunday School teacher, youth leader with her husband and an AWANA leader for over 35 years. Edie loved working outdoors, landscaping, mowing her lawn and enjoying God’s creation, but most of all her biggest pleasure was to serve Jesus and share the Good News of the Gospel with everyone she met. She made Laceyville her mission field for over 55 years. She held and attended many Bible studies over her lifetime and memorized large sections of scripture which were of great comfort to her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert (Bob) Brigham; their five children and their spouses, Raymond (Susan) Brigham of Spring Hill, Randy (René) Brigham of Laceyville, Robert G. Brigham of Laceyville, Leah Sapp of Dallas, TX and Miriam (Mike) Lutes of Kingsville, OH; 15 grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda (Justin) Millard, Eric (Jessica) and Adam; Preston (Rochelle) and Jay (Dezra); Brianna, Nichole, Alyssa, Miranda, Erica, Tyler and Janae, Taymar, Katherine and Justin and eight greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, George (Sandy) Hayes, and three sisters, Barbara (John) Murphy- Howard, Pricilla (Charles) Ellis and Dorothy (Dick) Joyce. She was predeceased by two sisters, Judy Malony and Joann Roberson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. from the Braintrim Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Davis of the church officiating. Interment will follow at the Lacey St. Cemetery. There will be a private viewing for the family from 8 to 9 a.m. and public calling hours from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
