Born Oct. 28, 1944 in Terry Township at his family home, he was the son of the late Donald Cameron Lewis and Dolly Heath Lewis. He graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School as a member of the class of 1962. He served in the U.S. Air Force, a member of the 8th Tactical Wing in Ubon, Thailand, during the Vietnam War. He became an electrician through the GI Bill and worked on construction in Texas. He married the former Selvia Reeves of Houston, TX, on July 1, 1973. He and Selvia moved back to PA in 1974 and he went to work for RD Goss for 14 years, until relocating to Lock Haven where he was employed by Hammermill Paper Company, which later became International Paper. After the plant closed, he began working for Craftmaster Mfg. in Wysox, from which he retired in 2008.
Richard was a member of the New Era Methodist Church and a past member of the Sugar Valley Lions Club. He loved riding motorcycles, he also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, NASCAR and Formula One racing. His special love was being with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his spouse, Selvia at home; three daughters, Andrea Summers of Heilwood, PA, Diane (Michael) Elmore of Leesburg, VA and Katherine (Edward) Armstrong of Huntingdon, PA; three sisters, Shirley
Lewis Butler of Springfield, VA, Jean Adams of Buckhannon, WV and Frances (James) Elliott of Falls Church, VA; three grandchildren, Andrew Christopher Lewis, Benjamin Elmore and Maya Elmore; a special niece, Cyndi Butler of Springfield, VA; special daughter, Cathi (David) Short of Orlando, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers-inlaw, Nathan Adams on April 22, 1993 and JT Butler in April of 2004.
A funeral service was held on Friday, Dec. 27 at noon at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, with Florence Campbell and Edward Zinser officiating.
