Dorothy Townsend

Dorothy Townsend, 90, of Totem Lake, PA, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.

Born on May 28, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Milton and Minnie Newcomer. She met and married Colin Townsend, Jr. of Philadelphia in 1942; he predeceased her in November of 1987. They lived in the Philadelphia area until moving to Totem Lake in 1968. She and Colin enjoyed hunting and fishing and outdoor living. They enjoyed going to Florida together for the winters. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting. Dottie was a volunteer at the Bradford County Manor for 24 years until retiring at the age of 89; she also enjoyed volunteering at Park Place in Wyalusing.

She loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dottie always had a pocket full of biscuits for any and all of the neighborhood dogs. She enjoyed bowling, which she did until the age of 87 when Mountainside Lanes in Wyalusing closed, which forced her into retirement.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Colin and Donna Townsend of Voorhees, NJ, William Townsend of Northampton, Jack and Nancy Townsend of Totem Lake; daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Eric Chaffee of Totem Lake; grandchildren, Drew and Cara Townsend of Haddon Twp., NJ, Jill Townsend of Voorhees, NJ, Scott Townsend of Palmerton, Steve Townsend of Palmerton, Stacy Townsend of Manchester, Kristin and Brad Vasey of Windham Center, Casey and Mandy Townsend of Boston, MA, Ashley and Stephen Trinidad of Lilburn, GA, Lisa and Clay Milne of Totem Lake, Derek Chaffee and fiancée, Julia Dalton of Pocono Pines; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Morgan, Meredith and Will Townsend, Ava and Mae Cipollono, Briana Townsend, Corryne Hubert, Savannah, Lucas and Brooklyn Milne; a sister, Florence Eve of Venice, FL and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Harry Newcomer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing.
