The amount for the 2013-2014

The amount for the 2013-2014 school year paid by the Wyalusing District will be 50 per cent reimbursed to the district by the state. Reimbursement occurs every year. After emailing him several times and contacting our state representative's office, I received a confirmation of that fact from Dr. Mummau. My emailed questions to him as well as his answers never appeared on the website or in his column. I believe this would reduce the percentage actually paid to 10.7 per cent after the district receives its usual 50 per cent reimbursement from the state. The facts about this reimbursement should be made public to avoid the "shock factor" of doubling the district's actual contribution. Let's not play games with the facts. Even in the movie Groundhog Day there was an acceptable resolution to the problem. The General Asembly is very aware of this issue as the pension plan includes their own pensions. Perhaps the problem school districts are dealing with stems from the actions of a governor who started his term of office by cutting Pennsylvania's public school funding by one billion dollars while promoting charter schools and requiring the districts to fund cyber schools. The cuts in programs and increased fees caused by less funding to our schools are making alternative education more attractive to the public and could result in the demise of public education.
