Barton C. Allen, 82, of Dushore and formerly of New Albany, PA, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at the Bradford County Manor, West Burlington Township.
Born on the family farm in New Albany on Nov. 3, 1931, he was a son of the late Beebe Chapman and Aza Flora Crawford Allen. He married the former Nina Joyce Epler and she predeceased him in 1970.
Barton graduated from New Albany High School, a member of the Class of 1949. After graduation, he worked on the family farm before entering the Air Force in 1956. He was honorably discharged in 1960 and then shortly after being discharged, he went to work for PennDOT and retired from there many years later.
He was a member of the Moxie Community Church. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting. In his retirement, he looked forward to his monthly dinners with his former co-workers from PennDOT.
Surviving are a son, Thomas (Amy) Allen of New Albany; two daughters, Theresa Berry and Debbie (Errek) McComb, all of New Albany; three sisters, Doris (Pete) Peterson of Raleigh, NC, Ruth Johnson of Horseheads, NY, and June (Erven) Crawford of New Albany; six grandchildren, Amber (Robert) Cook, Tara (Thomas) Dean, Timothy Mosier, Jr., Courtney McComb, Paris Allen and Jason Allen; several great-grandchildren and two special twin great-granddaughters. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his father in June of 1964; his mother in September of 1973; a brother, Charles Allen; a sister, Grace Johns and a great-grandson, Austin Jordan Cook on Oct. 29, 2009.
Funeral services will be held privately on Tuesday, Jan. 28, with Pastor Mike MacWhinnie officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to the Moxie Community Church, 391 Benjamin Road, Wyalusing, PA 18853 or the Dushore Fire Company Ambulance Association, PO Box 1, Dushore, PA 18614.
