A lesson in math???? The

A lesson in math???? The room tax money is a percentage of the room rents received. The quoted $400,000 is not a "minimum" by far! That number is a historical amount based on the occupancy of local hotels during the gas boom; when it was nearly impossible to find vacancy. I don't know if you've looked around at the hotel parking lots recently, but I doubt you will have a hard time booking a room anymore....... If the county sets up a program with a budget of $400,000 and the hotel occupancy plummets (i.e. The last 15 months) the revenues to fund this program go down in the same "mathematical" increment. So if we hire three Bradford County Residents, at county salaries and benefits, and the funding that pays for these employees decreases, exactly how much money will be left to promote tourism? At what point will county money be needed to subsidize the operation of the new agency? There is a significant cost to effectively promoting this county. It will take more than a website and locally produced brochures. Until these costs are defined and more accurate revenue numbers that reflect the new reality of hotel occupancy in Bradford County are available, caution IS warranted!
