McKenzie Vanderpool

McKenzie June Vanderpool, four, of 2007 Cornell Rd., Laceyville, PA (Indian Hill), went home to be with her Savior in the comfort of her home on Friday, March 7, 2014, surrounded by her family. McKenzie lost the battle with an inoperable brain tumor that infected her little body less than six months ago. Known to her family as Bubba Girl, she was a bright, cheerful, little girl full of life, who brightened everyone’s day. Little Kenzie was born in Towanda on Sept. 6, 2009, the daughter of Nicholas “Nick” and Kristy Dougal Vanderpool.

Kenzie always looked forward to attending Sunday School and the Awana Club every week at the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville. She was enrolled in pre-school at the Wyalusing Children’s Center, then later at the Sonbeam’s Pre-Kindergarten in Laceyville, which she faithfully attended until she became ill. She loved to be surrounded by her large family and her many friends. Kenzie loved to play dress up, especially when she got to dress like a princess. She also loved to play and watch Dora the Explorer, and absolutely loved the colors of purple and pink. Little Bubba always loved to be with her older sister and her two older brothers, but it was her little baby sister that she loved to help her mother with. Having a large back yard with many toys and a swing set, she would love to run and play with her brothers and sisters. Bubba Girl was also an experienced four-wheeler rider.

Surviving are her parents, Nick and Kristy Vanderpool; her sisters and brothers, Taylor, Nicholas, Jr., Tacoma and Quinn. McKenzie is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Carl and Terri Dougal of Monroeton, Patricia Cuddy and Tony Pousen of Towanda; paternal grand-parents, June and Joe Rhubright of Laceyville and Jack and Gail Vanderpool of Laceyville; maternal great-grandparents, Ernie and Harriet Vargason of Liberty Corners, Jack and Karolyn Cuddy of Missasauga, Ontario, Canada; paternal great-grandmother, Katy Vanderpool, of Laceyville; her extended family of aunts and uncles, Branden and Eva Vanderpool of Laceyville, Kristine Rhubright of Laceyville, Austen McGee of Towanda, Erynn and Jacob Wahlgren of Seattle, WA, Samantha Dougal of Wysox, Cornell Dougal of Philadelphia, Christopher Dougal and Cheyenne Ackley, both of Wysox and many great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12 at 11 a.m. at the Braintrim Baptist Church, Laceyville, with Rev. Thomas Davis of the church officiating. Interment will be in the Lacey St. Cemetery in Laceyville. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday, March 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. and again from 6 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, McKenzie’s family is asking those wishing to make memorial contributions in her honor to the McKenzie June Vanderpool Memorial Fund c/o PS Bank, 76 Church St., Wyalusing, PA 18853; a fund set up to help area families that are battling through similar diseases and circumstances.
