Born on May 16, 1925 in Queens, NY, he was a son of the late Henry and Annie Hamilton Muench. He resided in Nanticoke since 1970 and previously lived in Laceyville, PA for 10 years and earlier in Long Island, NY.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a signalman on a mine sweeper.
Mr. Muench had been employed by Servicemaster Professional Cleaning Co. for many years as Regional Manager for the Northeastern United States and Southeastern Canada. In 1968, he purchased the Oscar Smith Company, Wilkes-Barre, owning and operating the business with his sons. He retired in 1995. He also wrote a sports column for the Rocket-Courier in the 60s and 70s.
Harry attended Nebo Baptist Church in Nanticoke and was a member of the American Legion Post in Black Walnut. He loved jazz music and was a member of the Wyoming Valley Jazz Association, was an avid sports fan, especially high school sports, particularly wrestling, and following his grandchildrens’ sports activities. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lydia.
Surviving are his wife, the former Sybil Nelms; sons, Bill Muench (Judith) of Laceyville, John Muench of Nanticoke and Cliff Muench (Deborah) of Nanticoke; a daughter, Aime Fink and her husband, Dr. Francis Allen Fink of Washington state; 12 grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; seven greatgreat grandchildren and a brother, William Muench and his wife, Lucille, Rochester, NY.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1 at 10 a.m. with visitation from 9 to 10 by Davis- Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 East Broad Street, Nanticoke, with Pastor Timothy G. Hall of Nebo Baptist Church officiating.
Interment followed in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Township.
