Search for Missing Man Ends in Tunkhannock
The search for Michael E. Nourse, who went missing on April 15, ended on Wednesday, May 7, after his body was found along Tunkhannock Creek in Tunkhannock Township.
Nourse, 54, was declared missing when his pickup truck was found in the Little Rocky Glen recreation area in Clinton Township on April 18. He had not been seen since April 15, when he went canoeing down the Susquehanna River. Nourse, formerly of Dalton, had made statements that he intended to take a trip down the Susquehanna River for possibly five to six days.
Nourse’s body was discovered around 6 p.m. on May 7 by a group of ATV riders along the creek. The Triton Fire Department and the Wyoming County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) were involved in the recovery of the body, which was then examined by Dr. Gary Ross, a forensic pathologist from Dunmore. Nourse was identified through dental records. It was also determined through the examination that the cause of death was attributed to the combined effects of freshwater drowning and hypothermia, meaning the manner of death was accidental.
