She was born Oct. 4, 1913 in her parents’ home in Wyalusing, PA, and was the daughter of William Henry and Millie Brown Lee.
A graduate of Wyalusing High School and Westchester Teachers College— now Westchester University—she followed with graduate work at Cornell University. She taught for 25 years in PA and Ithaca.
In Ithaca she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Women’s Club, National and Ithaca Teachers’ Associations, and she had volunteered at Ithacare, Presbyterian Church, Service League, Oak Hill Manor and as a hospital aide.
Alice was married to Wayne Sumner Lyon on June 29, 1940 in the family home in Wyalusing. They had been married almost 70 years.
She is survived by her three children, Wayne Eric of Ithaca, Diane Lee (Yuri) of Edmonton, Canada and Mark Sumner (Anne) of Monson, MA; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband,
Wayne; youngest son, Kirk Allen; sisters, Helen Bonnell and Nancy McCann, as well as her brother, John Lee.
A private burial service will be held in Wyalusing at the convenience of the family.
