Glenn S. Potter, 91, of 11839 Route 187 Wyalusing, (Terrytown), PA, died peacefully at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Sunday, July 27, 2014 with his family by his side, knowing he now is at peace with his Lord.
Born at Oak Hill, Wilmot Township, (Wyalusing) on Aug. 9, 1922, he was the son of Clinton and Pansy Smith Potter. Glenn married Elnora J. Kipp, daughter of Leland and Irene Kipp of New Albany, on June 15, 1944.
Glenn was a dairy farmer all his life and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a former deacon of the Evergreen Christian Church, being a member there since 1945. He was also active with the former Terrytown Baptist Church, as he gave the land and timber, along with time and labor in building the church. Glenn served as school director for Terry Township for one term after the school jointure was formed. He ran for Terry Township Supervisor in 1952 and was an active supervisor for 45 years, having served as secretary and treasurer for 54 years. In 1992, Glenn was voted Fireman of the Year of the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and in 2003 was honored in the Hall of Fame for voting every general election for 61 years straight.
Although retired, he still enjoyed assisting his son, Kevin, with the operation of the dairy farm (driving the tractor of his selected choice), along with his small greenhouse hobby and was busy doing wood cutting for his home.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Elnora, are his children and their families, three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Ruth Potter, Gary and Paulette Potter and Kevin and Donna Potter; eight grandchildren, Amy (Torrey) Holdren, Karen Potter, Lorraine (Andrew) Lamb, Christopher (Elizabeth) Potter, Audra (Kevin) Deibert, Amber Galvin, Adam Potter and Colleen (Daniel) Howard; eight great-grandchildren, Codey Holdren, Kiley Holdren, Joanna McGee, Jordan Lamb, Jesse Lamb, Maximilian Deibert, Harrison Deibert and Madison Galvin; sister, Betty Fowler of Binghamton, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Robert Jayne of Tampa, FL; brothers-in-law, Jacob Hoffman, Jr. of Fillmore, NY, Jerome Kipp and wife, Betty Kipp and Rev. Romeyn Kipp and wife, Elaine Kipp, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Jean Potter, Gerald and Francis Potter; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Harold Northrup and sister, Marie Hoffman.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at the Evergreen Christian Church, Wyalusing-New Albany Road, New Albany, with his brother-in-law, Rev. Romeyn Kipp officiating, assisted by Pastor Michael Dodd. Instrumentalist will be Mr. Adam Potter. Interment will follow in the New Era Cemetery. Following the interment service, a light luncheon will be held at the Wyalusing Fire Hall and all are invited to attend.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Maryott- Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Avenue, Towanda, and also on Thursday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.
