He was a longtime resident of Ralston, PA and later moved to Benson, AZ in 2003.
Born in Stevensville, PA on June 9, 1938, he was a son of Welland (Bud) and Josephine Bates.
Mr. Bates worked at various jobs throughout his working life, mostly truck driving. He retired from Frito Lay, Williamsport, where he was an over-theroad driver. He was one of their Million Mile accident free drivers, having driven over a million miles accidentfree.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie; son, James Bates; daughters, Betsy Horton (James) and Kathy Wagner (Ron); six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a son, Robert.
A private burial service was held in the Stevensville Cemetery on Thursday, July 24.
