Sandra E. Curry Heavlow Sandra E. Curry Heavlow Sandra “Sandy” Eldred Curry Heavlow, RN, 76, of Towanda, passed away peacefully Friday, May 12, 2017 at her home following declining health. Sandy was born May 23, 1940 in Towanda, the daughter of Robert H. “Bob” Eldred and Adela Mary Babcock Eldred.

She grew up in the “Toytown” area of Towanda and was a graduate of Towanda High School, Class of 1958. Following high school, Sandy attended and graduated from the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1961. She began her nursing career with the former Marie Foyle Home in Towanda, and following its closure, continued working with the former Mills Hospital in Towanda. Sandy provided private nursing care for the Bennett Family in Towanda for a number of years and later served as Head Nurse and Nursing Administrator at Memorial Hospital and the hospital’s Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda, Heritage Nursing Home in Athens, Laporte United Methodist Home and Darway Nursing Home in Estella, PA.

Sandy was a life member of Christ Episcopal Church and was a member of the Troy Arts Council, PA Sheriff’s Association and the Robert Packer Hospital Alumni Association. Sandy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family gatherings on Spring Hill, socializing with her nursing classmates, the outdoors, gardening and fishing.

Surviving are her children, Karen S. Hall and Kevin S. “Cupcake” Curry; grandchildren, Danielle L. “Dani” (Jim) Miller, Kylene K. “Ky” Reeves (Matt Stiehl), Cody R. “Sprinkles” Curry (Jamie Schmeckenbecher) and Talon S. Curry; great-grandchildren, James Miller, Kaylynne Miller, Gage Reeves, Shiloh Stiehl and Haven June Curry; her brother, Robert F. “Robin” Eldred and “Special Kids,” Mamie Horton, Crystal Wiles, Rachel Sherman and many extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas W. Heavlow, Sr. on March 28, 2015; mother, Adela Mary Eldred on Dec. 26, 1991 and father, Robert H. Eldred on Feb. 27, 2005.

The family received friends Wednesday, May 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Avenue, Towanda.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 1 Main Street, Towanda, with Rev. Canon Maureen AtLee Hipple, Rector, as celebrant. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be private in Oak Hill Cemetery, Towanda.
