Miriam Bartlett

Oct. 6, 2017

Miriam Bartlett Miriam Bartlett Miriam B. Bartlett, 95, of Montrose, PA, passed from this life to the presence of her Heavenly Father on Oct. 6, 2017 at Meadow View Senior Living Center.

She was born Miriam Bertha Depue on Oct. 20, 1921, at her parents’ farm home near Franklin Forks, Susquehanna County, PA. She was one of 11 children. Her parents were Ogden and Rena (Caswell Snyder) Depue.

Miriam grew up on the family farm and graduated from Montrose High School. She graduated from Baptist Bible Seminary, Johnson City, NY (which relocated to Clarks Summit, PA and is now Clarks Summit University), Mansfield State Teachers’ College (now University), and received a Master’s degree from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL. She taught school in Gibson and Thompson, PA, and Moorestown, NJ, before going to Nigeria, Africa, as a missionary teacher.

She served for 20 years in Nigeria with Sudan Interior Mission before marrying Clemens J. Bartlett on Feb. 14, 1970 at Bridgewater Baptist Church, Montrose. Clem and Miriam served another 10 years with SIM in Nigeria before returning to Clem’s home in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada. He had a construction business, and Miriam was the company bookkeeper. Upon Clem’s retirement, they moved to Grimsby, ON, where they lived until his death on March 21, 2001.

In 2004, Miriam moved back to Montrose to her home on Hinds Street. She has been a resident at Gracious Living Estates, South Montrose, since July 2013 and more recently a resident at Meadow View Senior Living Center, Montrose.

She enjoyed embroidery and painting and being part of a large family. She and Clem had a deep heart for the proclamation of Jesus Christ around the world. In addition to their personal service for 30 years, they financially supported many missionary endeavors from their business income and on into retirement. Miriam continued that practice to the time of her death. Many of Miriam’s siblings, nieces, and nephews were, and are, among those serving Christ as missionaries in far places of the world.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clemens; her parents; her sisters, Wilma Snyder and Ruth Rothberg, and brothers Horace Snyder, David Depue and Stephen Depue.

Surviving her are siblings, Elaine Berg of Montrose, Samuel (Esther Lou) Depue of Huntsville, AL, Paul (Elynor) Depue of Homer, NY, John (Phoebe) Depue of Pottstown, PA, and Esther (Dick) Camp of Laceyville, PA; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Depue of Montrose; a stepson, Glenn Bartlett of Exeter, ON; two step-granddaughters, plus a large number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, 382 Church Street, Montrose, at 2 pm, Monday, Oct. 16 with her nephew, Rev. James Depue, and brother-in-law, Rev. Richard Camp, officiating. Visiting hours will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery, Franklin Forks, PA, following the service.
